Who We Are
Gangway Guides is a small, independent publisher of cruise port walking guides for the Mediterranean and Baltic. Every guide is written by Jason Moon, based on personal visits to each port, and designed for one purpose: helping you make the most of limited time ashore.
We are not a travel agency. We do not accept sponsored content, paid placements, or affiliate commissions from restaurants, tour operators, or excursion companies. Every recommendation in our guides is based on firsthand experience.
Our Editorial Process
Each guide goes through the same process:
- Personal visit -- Every port is walked in person. Distances, walking times, and route difficulty are measured on foot, not estimated from a map.
- Price verification -- Restaurant prices, transport fares, and admission fees are checked at the time of writing and updated regularly. All prices are listed in local currency (EUR for most Mediterranean ports).
- Route testing -- Walking routes are tested from the actual cruise terminal, not from the city center. We account for docking locations, tender boat landings, and port gate positions.
- Map accuracy -- Our interactive maps are built from OpenStreetMap data and verified against our walking routes. Every pin is placed at the actual entrance, not the building centroid.
- Fact-checking -- Historical facts, opening hours, and practical details are cross-referenced against official tourism board sources and verified during our visits.
How We Handle Updates
Cruise ports change. Restaurants close, prices increase, and new transport options appear. We update our guides when we receive verified information about changes, and blog posts are refreshed with current data. The publication date on each piece of content reflects the most recent update.
